DE-CIX interconnects with edge player Vapor IO in U.S.

European internet exchange operator DE-CIX announced this week it has established interconnections with edge network operator Vapor IO’s Kinetic Edge exchange platform via DE-CIX’s Dallas and Chicago peering facilities.

The interconnections through the DE-CIX Dallas and DE-CIX Chicago facilities will help Vapor IO’s edge applications achieve broader reach, while an extended connection to DE-CIX New York will push those applications through onto international routes via DE-CIX’s GlobePEER Remote service. DE-CIX interconnection services are available today from Vapor IO’s Kinetic Edge locations in Dallas and Chicago using Vapor IO’s web portal and its software-controlled exchange platform, according to a DE-CIX press release.
“Edge applications aren’t just for local processing,” said Cole Crawford, founder and CEO of Vapor IO, in the press release. “They are often dependent on national and global reach, which is why our customers are excited to enrich their edge connectivity via access to thousands of networks on the DE-CIX platform. DE-CIX is an exceptional addition to our service offering. Customers can leverage DE-CIX interconnection capabilities through our SDN platform, enabling autonomous, software defined interconnection that enables best-in-class data delivery to content, high-volume networks, and service providers in local, national and international markets via a single Kinetic Edge port connection to DE-CIX.”

Ed d’Agostino, General Manager of DE-CIX North America, said in the release that the Vapor Io relationship furthers his company’s goal for this year to enable greater edge access to DE-CIX’s North American exchanges is firmly in motion. DE-CIX Dallas is the largest carrier and data center neutral internet exchange serving the Southwest region, the company claimed, with reach to more than 90 networks. DE-CIX, based in Frankfurt, Germany, opened DE-CIX Chicago last December as part of an ongoing U.S. expansion effort.
The announcement comes about 14 months after Vapor IO raked in about $90 million in Series C funding. The company had unveiled its Kinetic edge platform just a few months earlier.
