Windstream announced that it has selected the Coriant Groove™ G30 DCI Platform to facilitate the delivery of 100Gbps Data Center Interconnects (DCI) in the New York metropolitan area. The Coriant Groove G30 was developed to meet the explosive demand for Data Center Interconnects for the ever-growing colocation data center market.

A data center interconnect is the networking of two or more data centers to enable them to share resources and pass workloads among them. The Coriant high density DCI platform will enhance the Windstream interconnect platform and enable the company to easily meet the high-bandwidth connectivity demands of its clients which include leading global data center and cloud service providers.

Windstream indicated that the choice for Coriant Groove G30 DCI Platform was motivated by its high density, cooling power efficiency, and a modular design that minimizes low upfront costs. A modular design allows the user to purchase only the required minimum number of modules and add more modules when demand grows.

The Windstream New York metro rollout takes advantage of dense 100G client facing interfaces and 200G line side coherent optical transmission powered by Coriant CloudWave™ Optics. Coherent optics is the latest high data rate transmission technology used for 100Gbps and beyond.

The modular platform can handle 3.2 terabits of capacity throughput in a small and easily pluggable 1RU form factor, and allows service providers and cloud and data center operators to develop their own DCI optical transmission solutions using modular functions, available through open APIs.  The solution supports programmable dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) line cards to optimize the high-bandwidth transmission from 100G to 400G in metro, regional, or long-distance DCI applications.
